Donald Trump: Pure Entertainment
Real estate developer and television personality Donald John Trump launched his presidential campaign on June 16, 2015. Prior to the presidential campaign, Trump was known as a real estate mogul who built skyscrapers and golf courses around the world as well as hosting his own reality television show, “The Apprentice.”
How is someone with celebrity status, but no political background leading in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination? He flaunts his wealth and success in business as a foundation of his campaign, pledging from the start to self-fund his presidential campaign.
“I’m really rich,” Trump said during his announcement speech.
Trump’s campaign has become a media frenzy for entertainment purposes only. The media is addicted to the ratings that Trump continues to deliver with his ugly views and insulting remarks.
The Huffington Post called Trump’s run for presidency “an ugly and dangerous force in American politics.”
While we may be entertained by his outrageous remarks, we must not forget what he actually stands for.
Trump has said he would support a database that keeps track of Muslims in the U.S., very similar to how the Nazi government kept records of its Jewish population through Census data and forced them to wear yellow Star of David badges.
The Republican presidential candidate has continuously lied about seeing “thousands” of Muslim Americans in New Jersey celebrating after the 9/11 terror attacks as an explanation for why the country should target Muslim communities in the U.S. with discriminatory policies.
He still won’t acknowledge President Barack Obama as a U.S. citizen claiming that the country has had its first Muslim president. After coming under fire for his accusations, he handed the blame over to Hillary Clinton, stating that she started the birther movement; however, FactCheck.org reports that nothing links Clinton or her campaign to the issue.
Trump has consistently insulted, belittled, sexualized and stereotyped women. He even went so far as to say that sexual assault in the military is expected, pumping breast milk is disgusting, and all women are gold diggers.
He has demanded that deportations will be made once he is elected. He called Latino immigrants criminals, killers and rapists, kicked a Hispanic journalist out of a press conference, and blamed blacks and Hispanics for violent crimes across the country.
Let’s not forget the time when Trump mocked physical disabilities while attacking a New York Times reporter who has arthrogryposis, a condition that affects joint movements.
In his most recent campaign, Trump referenced the size of his penis assuring voters that there is “no problem” with the size of his hands or anything else.
The Washington Post summed up Trump perfectly, stating, “Let’s not mince words: Donald Trump is a bigot and a racist.” A person of this nature does not belong in office.↑ Back to top
