Hidden on Campus: Secret Beach

A walk down to the Hudson River is second nature for Marist students. There is a convenient road with a sidewalk next to the Hancock center leading to the Longview park along the scenic river. But surely that is not the only route to the river.

If you (and a friend for safety) trek behind lower Hoop lot, next to the Gartland field, you’ll find a rugged but real trail leading to the train tracks. If you cross the tracks, making sure first that no oncoming trains are near, you’ll find another trail similar to the first.

With caution, follow the path that zig-zags down to the Hudson River shoreline. The “beach” is not the most picturesque in the winter, but it still holds the smooth rocks and “sea glass” (broken bottles withered by the Hudson) that make the spot unique compared to the paved sidewalk in Longview Park.

The beach provides an alternate perspective of the Hudson River, and although technically not on campus, the beach remains a hidden gem at Marist.
